Accreditation

The Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences’ educational programs for entry into the profession are fully accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).  This agency can be contacted at NAACLS, 5600 N. River Rd., Suite 720, Rosemont, IL 60018-5119.  To contact by phone, call (847-939-3597) or e-mail at info@naacls.org.

These programs received the maximum length of accreditation for 10-years accreditation in 2021. The next accreditation review by NAACLS is scheduled for 2031.

Licensure

Currently, a license is not required in the Commonwealth of Virginia to practice as a medical laboratory scientist. If you anticipate residing in a state requiring licensure, we suggest that you meet with your MLS advisor to discuss the minimum education and professional competency requirements for licensure in that state.
